Surgery

Some trans people choose to go through surgery to alleviate some of the effects of gender dysphoria. There are different types of surgery one can go through. The most common are top surgery and bottom surgery. You can also get face surgery, Adam's apple removal surgery, and more. Surgery isn't required. You are valid if you choose not to go through surgery or can't for medical issues.

Top surgery is when you have your top genitalia removed. This is most common in trans men. It takes about 2 weeks on average to recover enough to go to work. It can take more or less time. It's different for every person. Be sure to do your research before choosing a surgeon and proceeding with the surgery.

Bottom surgery is when you have your bottom genitalia removed. There are 2 different procedures depending on if you are AFAB (assigned female at birth) or AMAB (assigned male at birth). Hospitalization is required for this procedure. It takes, on average, 6 weeks to fully recover. It's different for each person so it may take more or less time to recover. Always do your research before choosing a surgeon and proceeding with the surgery.
